Independent learning is an ability we can’t afford to ignore. It is a vital aspect of personal competitiveness that makes individuals stand out from the crowds. As pre-existed books and courses don’t include the newest academic and technical breakthroughs, self-learners may get access to and have a command of them in advance so that they are more likely to win out in the school or workplace competition. Moreover, this ability can also extend to other areas of life. In the process of independent learning, ones should manage time effectively, set their personal goals and solve problems on their own, which cultivate their ability to save other problems in life. Conversely, the lack of independent learning ability may reduce individual’s learning enthusiasm and quality, as there will be teachers or leaders push them to study again and again. In that case, one is likely to be exposed to others’ ideas and suggestions and receive knowledges passively, which prevents them from developing critical thinking and controlling their lives. Accordingly, college students----future leaders of society----must prioritize these skills for personal development.
